Nonprofit plans to build housing in Hanover for adults with developmental disabilities

A recent article, by Ray Couture of the Valley News, profiled a young man with cerebral palsy and his family, who dream of a place where he can live independently with the support he needs to thrive. The challenge they face, like so many others, is how to get qualified caregivers to provide the wrap-around services he needs.

Interviewed for this article, Visions’ Executive Director Sylvia Dow discusses how Visions serves this population and the great need for more facilities like Visions.

Visions receives two awards in support of its collaborations with local businesses!

Sylvia received CDFA tax credit award for Visions Hanover

New Hampshire’s Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) recently announced a $400,000 award in the form of tax credit opportunities, to help fund the Visions capital campaign to create permanent supportive housing for 12 adults with developmental disabilities and other disabling conditions in Hanover. Through the CDFA program businesses will have the opportunity to purchase tax credits—applied to their Business Profits Tax, Business Enterprise Tax, Insurance Premium—with 75% of proceeds going directly to support Visions Hanover.  Want to find out more? Visions for Creative Housing Solutions’ recognition by Plan NH on June 22, as one of four Merit Award recipients statewide, further demonstrates their ability to successfully collaborate with local businesses. This award recognizes and showcases projects that reflect the mission and values of Plan NH and demonstrates how the built environment can make a positive contribution to people and places. The Merit Awards program “uplifts those nominated projects that champion Smart Growth and Livability Principles, the Triple Bottom Line (social, environmental, and economic), and creative approaches to collaboration and cooperation.”

December 31, 2021 - The Board of Selectmen of Enfield dedicated the 2021 Annual Report to Sylvia and David Dow for their contributions to Enfield, the Upper Valley, and the special needs community at large. (See page 4 of the Town of Enfield 2021 Annual Report.)


Executive Director Sylvia Dow Receives 2021 NH Impact Award: On April 22, 2021, Executive Director Sylvia Dow was presented with the NH Impact Award by the NH Center for Non-Profits. This award honors nonprofit employees who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their organization, their community, and the nonprofit sector and whose leadership has been integral to significant advance-ments in New Hampshire. An Enfield resident helps firefighters with their hoses
